The following terms appear throughout the Briarwicket interface and supporting documentation. This guide explains what each term means in the context of the service, so that users can navigate and interpret the interface with confidence.
Primary terms in the interface
A named group into which information is placed during the classification stage. Each category corresponds to a recognisable subject area or content type. Users with access to the platform can navigate between categories using the primary interface layer.
The process by which incoming content is assigned to a category. Classification is carried out by the AI-assisted layer within the system. Items that cannot be classified with confidence are flagged for review rather than placed in an uncertain category.
A secondary attribute attached to a content item during or after classification. Labels allow items within the same category to be further distinguished from one another. Users can filter by label within a category view to narrow the content displayed.
The main part of the interface in which classified content is presented to users. The review environment shows items in a consistent visual format and allows users to open individual items for closer examination.
A structured finding surfaced by the observation layer when a category holds sufficient content for patterns to be identified. An observation describes what the system has noted in the classified data. It is not a recommendation and should not be treated as independently verified fact.
A control within the review environment that allows users to restrict which items are displayed. Filters can be applied based on category, label, time period, or other attributes attached during classification. Filters do not remove items from the system; they change what is visible in the current view.
A single unit of content that has been classified and placed in the system. An item may be a document, a record, or another structured piece of information. Each item belongs to one primary category and may carry one or more labels.
The full presentation of a single item, accessible by selecting it from the category view. The detail view shows all the information held about that item in the system, including its category, labels, and any notes added during classification.
The set of categories and functions available to a specific user following access approval. Not all users are granted access to all categories. Access level is determined at the time access is approved and may be reviewed at a later date.
A message submitted by a user to the Briarwicket support team. Enquiries may relate to access requests, questions about classified content, interface issues, or other matters. Enquiries are submitted through the Enquiry page and are addressed to [email protected].
A request submitted by a user who believes an item has been assigned to an incorrect category. The support team reviews reclassification requests and updates the classification if warranted. Requests are submitted as enquiries using the Enquiry page.
The period of active interaction between a user and the interface. During a session, the interface maintains a record of navigation actions and applied filters. Session-level records are not permanently retained after the session ends.
